Embarking on a journey of exploration and discovery, as a Turkish traveler, the prospect of delving into the heart of cities that resonate with both cultural familiarity and tantalizing culinary wonders is truly enticing. Among the myriad destinations, four cities, Thessaloniki and Budapest for their cultural parallels, and Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing, and New Delhi for their diverse gastronomic offerings, stand out. Additionally, Hanoi, with its inspiring history, adds another layer to this travel odyssey.
One of them is Thessaloniki of course. It’s the city where Atatürk was borned and we have been sibling to each other despite politics. Nestled in the heart of Greece, Thessaloniki offers a captivating journey through time, reflecting the historical ties between Turkey and its neighboring nations. With its rich Ottoman past, the city’s winding streets of the Ladadika district and the iconic White Tower provide a deep sense of cultural familiarity, creating a bridge to the shared history, architecture, and traditions.
While talking about similarities it’s impossible to miss Budapest. Budapest, the enchanting capital of Hungary, stands as a testament to the cultural fusion between East and West. The Buda Castle, thermal baths, and the Danube River echo the Ottoman influence, offering Turkish travelers a sense of connection. Even some streets is named in Turkish. Exploring the city’s culinary scene, where Hungarian dishes blend seamlessly with Turkish twists, makes Budapest a delightful destination for those seeking a balance between the known and the new.
As you know we have inspiring history. So it is good to add a touch of historical inspiration to the journey, Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, beckons with its rich and resilient history. From the ancient charm of the Old Quarter to the solemnity of Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, Hanoi narrates tales of endurance and triumph. I believe that I will find inspiration in the city’s resilience, creating a unique dimension to the cultural exploration.
After history, we need to eat. I don’t know why but for me, Tokyo stands as a gastronomic haven. The meticulous preparation and presentation of dishes, from sushi to ramen, mirror the precision found in Turkish cuisine. Exploring Tokyo’s vibrant food markets and traditional izakayas promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese gastronomy, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.
After that the bustling streets of Hong Kong, will encounter a tantalizing blend of Chinese and international cuisines. The dynamic street food scene, featuring dim sum, barbecue pork buns, and egg tarts, showcases the fusion of flavors reminiscent of Turkish bazaars. The vibrant markets and energetic atmosphere create a sense of familiarity within the exotic, making Hong Kong an exciting destination for cultural and culinary exploration.
I am continuing food tour with New Delhi. In order to seek the bold and vibrant flavors of South Asia, New Delhi emerges as the ultimate destination. The city’s bustling street markets, aromatic spice stalls, and diverse array of curries offer a sensory overload reminiscent of Turkish cuisine. Exploring the historical sites of Old Delhi while indulging in local street food provides an immersive experience that transcends borders, creating a symphony of tastes and aromas.
Leas but not favourite is the capital of China, Beijing, invites to immerse tourists in a rich tapestry of history and culinary delights. From the iconic Peking duck to savory dumplings, the city’s diverse food offerings mirror the breadth of Chinese cuisine. Turkish globetrotters will appreciate the intricate flavors and aromatic spices, creating a bridge between the vibrant culinary traditions of both cultures. Despite its beauty, I would definitely go there to stand up for Uyghurs.
